Pavilion of Knowledge - Ciência Viva Centre
The Pavilion of Knowledge - Ciência Viva Centre opened to the public in July 1999. It is part of Ciência Viva - National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture, a private, not-for-profit organisation. The agency started out as a programme created by the Portuguese Ministry of Science and Technology in 1996.
Ciência Viva's mission is to disseminate science and technology to the general public by acting in three main areas: as a space for informal contact with science to attract young people to careers in science and technology, as a vehicle to promote current research and as a space for participation and dialogue with people on topics that have an impact on their daily lives. The Pavilion of Knowledge - Ciência Viva Centre has a total area of 11,000 m2. It receives an average of 300,000 visitors per year, making it one of the most visited museums in Portugal.
